Describe yourself in three words.
Creative. Inventive. Queer.
What are three fun facts about you?
I'm a professional Counselor. I'm audhd. I'm a nonbinary parent to two teens.
What do you do for fun when you aren’t writing?
I like to game - video and tabletop.
How did you discover writing as a possible career?
I started writing at eleven and it just went from there.
How did you choose your pen name?
Beverly and Lynn are both feminine coded but gender neutral names. I fell in love with Beverly Crusher from Star Trek, and so it just came about. Plus, the initials B.L. also stand for Boys Love.
Where do you find inspiration for your stories?
Lots of places. I like to take well known tropes and cliches and flip them in unusual ways and darken happy ideas.
What trope is your favorite to write?
Hurt/Comfort. Out of everything, it's my best and favorite. I love the art of healing, and make it a big part of my books.
What is your favorite thing about being an author?
The amazing people I've met.
What is your writing process?
As someone with ADHD, I go between ideas quite frequently, so I usually work on 3-5 stories and rotate them. I can focus if I have to, but I usually go where I'm inspired to go.
What time of day are you most creative?
Super late at night or super early morning. I know, weird.
What is your ideal writing environment?
My office with my super clicky gaming keyboard, my monitor and laptop so I have two screens, my writing playlist going, and sometimes, there's a cat on the desk.
As an author, what challenges do you face?
I think as a queer author who writes primarily M/M or M/X, it's pretty much facing the people that harass queer folks. I've had some pretty nasty comments directed at me over the years.
What is your least favorite part of being an author?
Marketing
If there was one thing you could change about the writing/publishing industry, what would it be?
The expense for indie authors, and the incredibly restrictive requirements of a lot of trad publishers.
What advice would you give aspiring authors?
Keep writing what you love, and don't listen to anyone who tells you it'll never sell. There's a market for everything.
What is something you’d like to write, but haven’t yet?
Hmmm, I think I'd like to write a story featuring an immortal eldritch god.
Which parts of yourself are reflected in your characters?
A lot, really. There's a little of me in all of them.
Which of your characters have special meaning to you?
Kieran and Devan from Doctor's Training. Kieran is my autistic traits, my introversion, and Devan is my outgoing traits and my bigender identity.
How do you come up with character names?
I love looking up new gender-neutral names for my Main characters since they're usually nonbinary or nonbinary coded. Other than that, matching a meaning to a character is always fun.
What is something you love to hear from your readers?
I like to hear when I've touched someone and made them feel some kind of strong emotion.
When you read, which authors are your go-to authors?
Zalazney, Stephen King, Tolkien
Where can readers find you online?
https://www.phoenixreal.net/ and I'm phoenixreal in almost all places.
Do you have any current ARCs or free downloads readers might be interested in?
https://www.facebook.com/groups/beverlysarcteam and sign up. Then ask for any book you want to ARC.
What is your latest/upcoming release?
I've got my Chains of Blood Trilogy (dark paranormal romance) coming out. It's not what most people expect.
