Describe yourself in three words.
Weird, funny and creative.
What are three facts about you?
1. I love learning new things, keeps my mind entertained.Â
2. I have an invisible illness called fibromyalgia.
3. One of my life goals is to make friends with a crow.
What is your favorite book from childhood?
Great Expectations. I remember reading it for the first time in middle school, and it is one of the books that I read again every once in a while.
When you read, which authors are your go-to authors?
A couple of my favorite authors are Laurel K. Hamilton and Rachael Vincent.
What book has made the biggest impact on your life?
I don't generally read books that are impactful, I'm more just reading for escape and the vibes.
Do you have any book related tattoos?
Yes, I do. I got matching tattoos with my co-author Lena Lane for our Sinful Seven Novels. I have Asmodeus' symbol on my back and a fly for Beelzebub right behind my ear because he is the lord of the flies.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?
There are so many to choose from but my favorite go-to comfort show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
What subject could you talk about all day?
Greek Mythology. I love reading about it, learning about it, and talking about it. And yes, I am well aware that sometimes I am that annoying "Did you know... (insert random Greek mythology fact here)," friend.
What is your dream vacation destination?
Dream vacation would probably be somewhere in the mountains during any season that's not winter, or at a secluded lake house.
What do you do for fun when you aren’t writing?
I love crafting, and I have super ADHD so I will literally pick up random hobbies and cycle them in and out depending on my mood.
Are there any causes you support or which are important to you?
Yes. I love bats and bees and I feel that everyone should know what an important role they play in our ecosystem. I have links on my author site with information on why they are important and what people can do to help them thrive/ survive.
How did you discover writing as a possible career?
I always loved storytelling, and writing but I didn't have the opportunity to actually work on it as a career until I had children and was able to stay home with them. It is challenging at times to take care of the household and my family while I try to make it as an author, but I am lucky enough to have a supportive husband and manage my time wisely.
How did you choose your pen name?
It is literally just my name. My first and middle initials and my last name. Honestly I could have been more creative. When I first started writing I wanted to write stories that were not romance and I read once that men are more likely to read a book written by a man so using an androgynous name may help me. I'm not sure how much of that actually matters now though.
Where do you find inspiration for your stories?
Everywhere. Anywhere. News articles, random images and artwork. (Ask me about Noodle Muses). But sometimes the best inspiration comes from the stories I've already written. Those side characters sometimes demand their own books!
What is the weirdest fact you've found when researching for a book?
Did you know that some species of octopus actually rip off their reproductive members and throw them at the female for self-insemination. Or that a bear's penis has an actual bone in it. Also snakes and sharks have two penises. Don't ask me why all of my weird facts revolve around genitals please.....Â
What trope is your favorite to write?
Enemies to Lovers. It's all about the snark and the underlying sexual tension.
What is your favorite thing about being an author?
I love meeting readers and making new author friends. I love creating crazy worlds and quirky characters.
What is your writing process?
I am what some call a plotter. Meaning I like to plot my books. I need to know what's going to happen next all the way to the end of the book. It does not come without its challenges, sometimes my brain just isn't braining, and once the book is plotted I might have a hard time writing it. The brain thinks the book is finished.... but its not...
What time of day are you most creative?
Usually in the middle of the day or in the late evening. Those are the times that I can have time alone to write so I have to utilize them wisely.
What is your ideal writing environment?
I put on my headphones and listen to weird instrumental music, or k pop because I can't sing along to all the words. Sometimes if I am extra distracted I will literally listen to the TV static white noise sound and it helps me focus.
As an author, what challenges do you face?
I've been told that I am a perfectionist, and while some might think that's a good thing, it can also be a very big hinderance to completing work because I am always going through thinking, I can make this better.
What is your least favorite part of being an author?
Social Media Advertising to get my name out there. Also, editing. Take your pick, I find them all equally awful, intimidating, and infuriating.Â
If there was one thing you could change about the writing/publishing industry, what would it be?
In a magical pretend world, I would change all the competition and hate for one another. My success is your success. We should all celebrate one another's achievements. Readers read more than just one author, so I never understand the gatekeeping and hate that I sometimes see for others success.
What advice would you give aspiring authors?
Nothing is perfect, be kind to yourself. Also, your first draft is trash, everyone's is. The sooner you come to terms with that and accept it the better off you will be.
What is something you’d like to write, but haven’t yet?
I would love to write a horror story. I love horror movies, thrillers, slashers, any kind of good scare. I would love to try my hand at writing one. Maybe one day.
Which parts of yourself are reflected in your characters?
I love writing smart, but flawed, characters and I think its a reflection of myself in a way.
Which of your characters have special meaning to you?
Of all the characters I've written one holds a special place in my heart and I haven't even finished writing his book yet. His name is Belphegor and he is the embodiment of Sloth. He is one of the Sinful Seven, and while his book isn't ready yet, you still get to meet him and I still get to write about him in every single one of the Sinful Seven Novels.
How do you come up with character names?
I actually have a book of baby names that I look through. However sometimes I will just Google things to find a name if i want it to be extra meaningful.
What is something you love to hear from your readers?
I love to hear who their favorite characters are and why they love them. It means so much to me.
