ADHD. Mermaid. Bubbly.
What are three fun facts about you?
I own a mermaid tail that I swim with.
I am neurodivergent (ADHD, anxiety, learning disability).
I hate peanut butter.
What do you do for fun when you aren’t writing?
Read, paint, craft, cosplay, go to cons. I love dining out for sushi and traveling and theatre.
How did you discover writing as a possible career?
I wanted to prove to myself I could finish a project (because of my ADHD). I didn’t realize until my first year I could do this as a job but it was not going to be easy.
How did you choose your pen name?
It’s a former gamer rage of mine from an MMO. My character was a Tideborn. (a mermaid) I’m obsessed with The Little Mermaid.
Where do you find inspiration for your stories?
Everywhere!!!
What trope is your favorite to write?
Gay/bi awakening, friends to lovers, enemies to lovers.
What is your favorite thing about being an author?
Getting to watch my worlds come to life and for other people to fall in love with the sane characters I loved writing. Meeting those readers and fans who my words touch.
What is your writing process?
I’m a bit of a Plantster. I semi outline and give myself room to pants and discover new threads but keep a basic structure.
What time of day are you most creative?
Night
What is your ideal writing environment?
My office, with the rain outside hitting my window, with a cup of coffee.
As an author, what challenges do you face?
Remembering to savor the moment and slow down. I’m always hyper-focused and moving 5 steps ahead. Imposter syndrome is hard too. I've had to overcome a lot, but I'm always trying to “be on the level” and forget I set my own level 😅
What is your least favorite part of being an author?
The ups and downs of financial stability and the always changing market. Trying to keep up with the hot platforms, the hot trends, etc.
If there was one thing you could change about the writing/publishing industry, what would it be?
A more even playing field for indies in mainstream spaces.
What advice would you give aspiring authors?
Write the book. You can’t edit a blank page. It’s not supposed to be perfect in the first draft.
The most important thing is to get the words on paper (or screen).
What is something you’d like to write, but haven’t yet?
A sapphic romance!
Which parts of yourself are reflected in your characters?
There’s pieces of me in all my books. Especially my humor, my fangirl references, and my romantic ideals.
Which of your characters have special meaning to you?
Ava’s mom is modeled and designed after my mom who passed away in 2008. She never got to see me become an author but she lives on in all my books in every mother I write. But Ava’s mom is the one closest to her true representation.
How do you come up with character names?
I try them out in pairs and settle on what sounds good and what gives me the most inspiration. Like Cas & Ava., Jade & Rev., Gades & Darcy.
What is something you love to hear from your readers?
How much they appreciate the diversity in my books. Neurodivergent, LGBTQ, mental health awareness… those things.
When you read, which authors are your go-to authors?
C. Rochelle, Penny Fox, Evie Riley, AJ Mullican, there’s quite a few!
